More Flexible Tax Configuration for Rental Operators

Pocket today announced fixed tax support for RentalOS — allowing rental operators to configure flat-fee taxes, both fixed-amount and per-day, that are applied after percentage-based taxes on every rental invoice.

This update addresses a long-standing request from operators in jurisdictions that impose fixed surcharges, airport fees, tourism taxes, and other flat-rate levies that don’t scale with the rental price.

Two New Tax Types

Operators can now configure two types of fixed taxes in addition to existing percentage-based taxes:

  • Fixed Amount — a flat dollar amount applied once per rental (e.g., $5.00 airport surcharge)
  • Per-Day Fixed Amount — a flat dollar amount applied for each day of the rental (e.g., $2.50/day tourism fee)

Fixed taxes are calculated and applied after percentage-based taxes, ensuring correct ordering for jurisdictions that require it. The full tax breakdown appears on every invoice and customer-facing receipt.

Why It Matters

Many rental markets — especially those near airports, tourism destinations, and regulated zones — require operators to collect fixed surcharges that aren’t a percentage of the rental rate. Previously, operators had to manually adjust invoices or create workarounds to account for these fees.

With native fixed tax support, RentalOS now handles these calculations automatically, reducing manual work and ensuring compliance with local tax requirements.

Available Now

Fixed tax configuration is available in the RentalOS tax settings for all operators.
